DDM Funds Rebuilding of Bridge: Sharing the spiritual path

Regarding the much concerned reconstruction of Huangxi Bridge in the Jinshan District of New Taipei City, Ven. Guo Dong, abbot president of Dharma Drum Mountain, has represented its sangha and followers to present the illustration of the new bridge in plan to Eric Chu, mayor of New Taipei City, to mark its donation effort. The mayor presented the certificate of appreciation in return to the abbot president at New Taipei City Municipal Hall at 10 a.m. on June 28, and expressed thanks to DDM for their offer to help rebuild the affected communities.

The Mayor Expressed Thanks on Behalf of All Recidents to DDM Abbot President

At the beginning of the ceremony, the mayor expressed thanks on behalf of all residents to DDM abbot president, Ven. Guo Dong, as well as its sangha and followers, for bringing loving concern and kindness from society. Following the torrential rain that hit New Taipei City, DDM also offered to fund the reconstruction of Huangxi Bridge. The mayor urged representative personnel from the Civil Affairs Bureau and Public Works Bureau to cooperate with DDM to rebuild the bridge in high quality and as quickly as possible, to fulfill the expectation of local residents.

To Construct a Path is to Cultivate The Mind

After visiting village chiefs and the head of Jinshan District, Ven. Guo Dong expressed that all beings are a shared entity of lives. The decision to fund the rebuilding of the bridge following the heavy rain reflects the shared wish of DDM’s sangha to show gratitude to society by erecting a new path to connect local residents. In addition, the kindness of people from all walks of life also resembles the bridge, in that to construct a path is to cultivate the mind. He also hoped that in constructing the new bridge people can work together by “facilitating solidarity, demonstrating vitality, embracing compassionate wishes, and joining powers together.”

Wishing Well-being and Peace of Mind in Society by Funding the Reconstruction of the Bridge

Ven. Guo Qi, Ven. Chang Yuan, Zhang Changbang, president of the Dharma Drum Mountain Fellowship, and Wang Jingyi, president of DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, accompanied the abbot president to attend the donation ceremony on behalf of DDM, wishing well-being and peace of mind in society by funding the reconstruction of the bridge as a spiritual path. Hsu Tienkun, chief of Sanjie Village, Jinshan, said that Huangxi Bridge is a major connecting road for residents in the Chonghe, Sanjie, Qingchuan, Liuku, Xihu, and Lianghu villages. DDM’s visit and pledge to help rebuild the broken bridge has received wide recognition from local residents, who sincerely appreciated the support and assistance from society.
