The First Young Scholars' Chinese Buddhism Forum on June 26-27
The first “Young Scholars' Chinese Buddhism Forum” will be held on June 26 to 27. This rare and extraordinary Buddhist event, in the sense of playing a pivotal role in passing down Chinese Buddhism, gathers some domestic and international young scholars specializing in this field to team up, invite chairpersons and discussants on their own for creating an academic platform to broaden and exchange Buddhism ideas. According to the organizer, Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies, this forum, co-sponsored by Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts (DILA) and Sheng Yen Education Foundation, will be held in the Education and Administration Building at Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education. In the opening ceremony, Prof. Meir Shahar from the Tel Aviv University in Israel is invited to deliver a keynote speech. Besides, more than 20 chairpersons and discussants are invited to preside over and comment on essays that 45 young scholars in total from Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University, Hua Fan University, DILA, National University of Singapore, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Sichuan University, University of Tokyo, United States, Canada present.
The new generation’s acute observation to Buddhism is quite refreshing! Over ten miscellaneous topics across a wide range of time and space, including “Chan and Poetry across East Asia”, “What Transformations Caused to the Temples: A Study on the Space Changes of Buddhism Temples from Multi-perspectives”, “Transformation and Transmission of the Platform Scripture of the Sixth Patriarch throughout a Thousand Years: Its Versions, Diffusion, and Cultural Impact”, “Narratives of Buddha-nature in Chinese Buddhist Context: Re-examination of a Critical Buddhist Term”, “Folk Buddhism in Connection with Women’s Culture: A Research Based on Chinese baojuan (Precious Scrolls) and Local Gazetteer”, “A Study on Images of the Buddha's Life in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties”, and others, compose the unusual Buddhism symposium in these years.
