Cleaning up the Beach, Purifying the Mind
On the afternoon of 20 March 2013, 30 students of the Dharma Drum Sangha University and volunteers gathered at a beach near the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in the Jinshan District of New Taipei City for a beach cleanup campaign.
The campaign’s leader, Venerable Chang Duo said that cleaning up the beach also allowed us to clean up our already-tainted mind –the unwanted waste we see cast on the beach symbolize our mind’s vexations, waiting to be swept away.
Simultaneous to cleaning up the beach was the echoing of the campaign of ‘Protecting the Spiritual Environment’ actively promoted by the late Venerable Master Sheng Yen, the founder of Dharma Drum Mountain.
Venerable Chang Duo stated a hope that more people would endorse humanistic ideas, and work together to purify one’s own mind.
