DDSC Forms an Academic Collaboration with Korea’s Haeinsa Temple

On 9 March 2013, Dharma Drum Sangha University (DDSC) signed a memorandum with the Haeinsa Temple in South Korea to promote academic collaboration.

The ceremony was conducted at the DDSC of the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, and was jointly led by DDM’s Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong and the Haeinsa’s Abbot Venerable Hai Yue.

According to the memorandum, DDSC and Haeinsa Temple will dedicate themselves to mutual visits by students and researchers, to collaborate on scholarly publications and information on Dharma, and to propagate further research on the Dharma.

Venerable Guo Dong, Venerable Hai Yue, and other honorable Venerables from Haeinsa Temple, welcomed the deepened partnership for research on the Dharma and its promotion. Venerable Guo Dong said he believed that through this special collaboration, DDM can further spread its vision of ‘building a pure land on earth’, and that more religious talents could be nurtured for public good.

The Haeinsa Temple, first built in 802 CE, is the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism located in the Gaya Mountains, South Gyeongsang Province of South Korea. It is most notable for being home to the Tripitaka Koreana – a collection of Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81,350 wooden printing blocks, which has been preserved since 1398.
