Tien Nan Monastery Hosts International Chan meditation Summer Camp for Teachers

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the introduction of “Protecting the Spiritual Environment” by Venerable Master Sheng Yen, the Tien Nan Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain in Sanxia District of New Taipei City hosted a 4-day summer camp for a total of 109 teachers studying Chan (Zen) meditation , and cultivating the mindset of mindfulness.

This was the first time a camp of this nature had been organized and the teachers came from around the world, including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. The objective was to allow the teachers to fully appreciate the joy and beauty of Chan meditation and with continuous practice, to plant a Chan seed in the heart of every teacher.

The 4-day program, which included the Eight Form Moving Meditation and Outdoor Chan, were creative and inspiring, stimulating every teacher to cultivate mindfulness and quieten the mind, and to be aware of the strengths and benefits of preserving such a still mind.

According to Venerable Chan Xu, DDM is confident that these teachers will then return to their own campuses and ring the Dharma bell loudly and clearly, spreading the vision of ‘building a pure land on earth’ to the present and new generations in their own countries.
