Seeing the World with Your Purified Mind

Do you want to cultivate a big heart, making kindness and compassion an integral part of your daily life? Do you know how to see the world with a purified mind?

Ms Shu-Fen Chang, the Director of the Volunteer Group of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), was invited by the Dharma Drum Mountain Humanities and Social Improvement Foundation (DDMSHIF) to share her stories on the benefits of doing charity work at the Dharma Drum Deguei Academy on 29 June 2012.

Ms Chang’s talk attracted a large audience which included Dr. Shen-Yi Lee, the Secretary General of the DDMSHIF, who was there to welcome the speaker as well as show his support.

Ms Chang, also a painter and writer, is a most devoted charity worker who has spent countless hours tirelessly working to help people in need. She auctions off her paintings to help fund projects for the poor, and has introducedTSMC’s employees and their families to charity work, helping orphans, theaged and the disadvantaged island-wide.

In her talk, she said that our mind is like a mirror which allows us to not only see ourselves but at the same time, also allows others to see us clearly. Thus every action we take is clearly reflected in our mind-mirror.

Through deep self-reflection, we can and must try to let go of all attachments clinging to our mind, and we must consciously make an effort to regain the purified mind that is always innately there. She stressed that we can influence others positively, provided we have successfully transformed our own mind.

Ms Chang recalled that her charity dedication was first inspired by the Venerable Master Sheng Yen during a 3-day Chan Retreat conducted by the Master in the spring of 2008. She was simply touched to the core by the Master’s compassion for mankind.

“Since then, I knew that I too have to embark on the same path to ‘Protect the Spiritual Environment’. I am grateful for what I have. ” The world will look a lot better when we see it with kindness and compassion that has been cultivated with a purified mind.
