DDM Promotes Eco Burial for Environmentalism

On 22 June 2012, Venerable Guo Xuan of the DDM Sangha Community was invited to attend a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Interior (MOI) at the International Convention Center of National Taiwan University in Taipei, introducing DDM’s effort on eco-burial at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.

The MOI meeting aimed at encouraging people in Taiwan to adopt eco funeral services that are environmentally sustainable and friendly to our planet, rather than traditional approaches that consume natural resources.

Venerable Guo Xuan mentioned that according to late Venerable Master Sheng Yen, the value of life stands on contribution. Therefore, it is important for us to diligently ponder how the concept of meaningful contribution can be applied to funeral service.

DDM’s ash burial at the Eco Friendly Memorial Garden of the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education is in line with the idea of Protecting Spiritual Environment, dedicated to respect and preserve nature and wildlife, Venerable Guo Xuan stressed.
