Pure Land Hall

Pure Land Hall

The Buddhist services at the Pure Land Hall include chanting the Amitabha Buddha Sutra (阿彌陀經), reciting Amitabha Buddha’s name while walking, sitting and during silent meditation, prostrating to the Buddha, repenting, transfer of merits, and listening to dharma talks related to the practice.

Pure Land is a common goal for many Mahayana Buddhist practitioners. The Pure Land of Amitabha in particular has been widely accepted in areas where Chinese Buddhism flourishes.

Master Sheng Yen encourages the public to practice the method of reciting Amitabha’s name with great sincerity. Practicing this method not only affirms one’s determination to be reborn in Amitabha’s Pure Land at the final stage of one’s life, but it also functions in the present moment to improve one’s character, eliminate karmic hindrances and enable one to benefit oneself and others.
