What is Chan?

That became the theme for the retreat recently completed during the Easter long weekend at Camp Ku-Ring-Gai in Ebenezer, next to the Hawkesbury River and about 60 km from Sydney. The retreat started on Friday evening, 2 April and finished on Monday afternoon, 5 April 2010. A total of 18 participants and 5 volunteers attended the retreat.

On the afternoon of 21 February, 2010, the event titled 'Transmission of the Dharma Lamp', led by Venerable Chang Yan, was hosted at the practice center in Los Angles, United States of America.

On Sunday, February 21, 2010, CMC held a commemorative ceremony for Master Sheng Yen. The day started with greetings and blessings from Abbot President Guo Dong via Internet.

What is Chan meditation?

On 28 February, 2010, Dharma Drum Mountain Vancouver (DDM Vancouver) in the hope of attracting more non-Chinese speakers to get to know Chan (Zen), offered a one-day program, “Living Chan”, led by the Abbot of Dharma Drum Retreat Center in New York, Venerable Guo Xing.

Nothing is permanent, and that was what one could deduce immediately when we returned to BGF, on a second trip with Chang Wen Fashi, to live and share Dharma moments with BGF again.

The 'we' here refers to 3 of us from DDM: Chang Wen Fashi, Wen Wei, and me.

And what is least expected always turned out to be a surprise, and what a pleasant surprise this visit was, when one compared with our first maiden visit a few months back.

Dharma Drum Mountain in Malaysia held a three-day training program with the aim to cultivate more talents capable of managing study groups and guiding the members.

On Sunday, November 15, 2009, DDRC resident monastic Chang Chi Fashi gave a talk entitled, “The Eightfold Path to Joyful Living.” Fashi's talk was based on the Eightfold Noble Path taught by the Buddha to “help people let go of suffering and embrace happiness.”

Fashi introduced the talk by sharing calligraphy by Master Sheng Yen, “The Hu people from the West talk about the Eightfold Noble Path.” This pun can be interpreted as, * "The Hu people talk nonsense." . Through this play on words, Fashi referred to his own humble attempt to teach the Eightfold Noble Path without making it sound like gibberish.

A series of Dharma talks on the Sutra of Eight Realizations of Great Beings was presented by Venerable Guo Che in San Francisco from 14 January to 17 February, 2010.

On the afternoon of 6th February, 2010, more than two hundred people gathered at Dharma Drum Mountain in Vancouver (DDM Vancouver) to commemorate one year since Master Sheng Yen’s passing, and concurrently, for the celebration of the 2010 New Year.

Dharma Drum Mountain (Sydney) hosted a ceremony on the 21st February 2010 to mark the first anniversary of the passing of Master Sheng Yen, founder of Dharma Drum Mountain.
